This slab is embedded in the recently refurbished north aisle of the Abbey.
It reads:
“Here lies the body of Ann wife of Jno Clapcot
who died Seper the 23rd 1757
Aged 36 Years
Behold and see as you Pass by,
I am now so … you be,
Prepare for Death and Follow me.
Also here lieth the Body of
Mr John Woolfrey who Departed
this life August the 4th 1780
Aged 56 years”

Although we are a local history group, we are carrying out family and social history research to see how the ordinary people lived, how they were treated, their economic fortunes, religious beliefs, health, demographics, etc. We are particularly interested in the mobility of families in the 18th century.
